KEEPING RECORDS

In West Virginia, notaries are not required to keep a journal of their acts. However, if you are concerned about liability, keeping a notary journal listing the date, person’s name and type of document notarized will help protect you. Examples of proper notary journal formats can be found on the Secretary of State’s website (www.wvsos.gov).
