Frequently referred to as professional liability insurance, notary errors and omissions (E&O) insurance provides a level of protection for you as a duly commissioned notary public. E&O insurance does not cover deliberate criminal acts. Here are some important things you should know:
- E&O insurance is available to notaries in all states
- Occurence-based policies are freely written and usually have limits ranging from $5,000 to $100,000
- Claims-made policies require an application and usually have limits of $500,000 or $1,000,000
