According to a Slashdot story, https://it.slashdot.org/story/11/10/22/0310230/xml-encryption-broken-need-to-fix-w3c-standar d"> https://it.slashdot.org/story/11/10/22/0310230/xml-encryption-broken-need-to-fix-w3c-standard , the XML Encryption standard has been broken (in the same sense that the US broke the Japanese purple code in World War II, remember the movie Midway?). There is a wiki, https://wiki.mismo.org/awg/Wiki%20Pages/MEG0029%20XML%20Encryption%20of%20MISMO%20XML.asp x"> https://wiki.mismo.org/awg/Wiki%20Pages/MEG0029%20XML%20Encryption%20of%20MISMO%20XML.aspx , that explains that MISMO uses XML encryption. MISMO is (or was?) a big player in electronic notarization of mortgages, and also in the world-wide mortgage crisis. (Remember all those court cases about banks that couldn't prove they really, truly, owned the note?)
