1. Make sure you meet the requirements to become a Louisiana notary (see below).
2. Complete the Application to Qualify and pay the $35 application fee.
3. When your Application to Qualify is approved, you'll receive instructions to register online to take the required Notary Exam Pre-Assessment. Once you've registered for the Notary Exam Pre-Assessment, you will receive an email from the LSU Center for Assessment and Evaluation on how to login and complete the pre-assessment. The pre-assessment is an evaluation, and does not require a passing score for you to register for the Louisiana notary exam.
4. Once the Secretary of State receives your pre-assessment score, you will be able to register online for the Louisiana notary exam.
5. You must complete your Application to Qualify, Notary Exam Pre-Assessment, and Examination Registration within 30 days prior to your exam date.
6. Take and pass the Louisiana notary exam.
7. You must execute two Oath of Office forms. File your notary oath and bond with your pariah's clerk of court.
8. Purchase a Louisiana notary stamp.
