I am a fairly new Notary. I had a loan signing tonight that had ID with name, ex: John Doe Smith but docs had John Doe Silas Smith. I called escrow and they advised me to have borrower cross out middle name, initial it and sign the way it says on ID. Is this legal for me to notarize or not?

Does signer have a passport with full name? Where are you located?

If you have a name on your passport John Doe Silas Smith than there is no issue with or without the middle name.But in some situation the law don't allow you to miss the middle name.So you must follow the law that you have in your state.
