    We https://www.docverify.com as an E-Notary/E-Signature provider have been very active in promoting our products or services, but there is only so much we can do as a provider or other providers can do to help take this great technology get to the next level.

    We feel that we are in a vicious cycle when it comes to e-notarizations. Businesses not only want to save time and money, but they do want to go completely paperless. We do get asked all the time about e-notarizations by different businesses, but they shy away from it because there aren’t enough notaries doing it in their states. On the other hand, we have found that notaries shy away from e-notarizations for two reasons. One, without naming names, a prior association tried pushing their technology to notaries that was both confusing and expensive. Two, they don’t want to become an E-Notary because there aren’t enough requests or businesses requesting it.

    Basically, in a nutshell we have a stalemate, businesses don’t do it because there aren’t enough notaries doing it, and notaries don’t want to offer it because there aren’t enough businesses requesting it. This cycle needs to be broken if everyone is to capitalize in this evolving industry.

    We feel that it wouldn’t hurt to mention to your clients that if they’re in a state that allows e-notarizations that they can e-notarize their documents by educating them about electronic notarizations. The fact is that they may want to do it, but are unaware that they can or they’re unaware that there is technology out there to enable to do it. Even if they don’t want it right then and there, you’ve done your job by planting it in their minds, and when they’re ready to do it, guess who they’re going to call first. You! So, lets all do our part and help spread the word.

    Perhaps you should provide a free demo, as you do for unnotarized documents. Of course, it would have to be altered to make it clear it is a demo and not a real notarization. I suspect that both potential signers and potential notaries would be interested in the nitty-gritty details. For example, one of the programs of that other company you mentioned didn’t work for states that don’t assign commission numbers.

    I think providing notary services online is the way to go in our advanced technological world. But I think it would help ease more people into accepting and using this service online if you could offer a demo here at https://www.notary.net

    I agree with you, and think that everything is becoming digitized, and so too should notary, and if there were some demos that could show the ease of use and the benefits of the service it would really help ease a lot more people into it. This is an excellent idea. 🙂

    Docverify costs about $120 to get started, then about $20 per month. Due to the low level of activity, the notary would have to presume that the customer who request an electronic notarization will be the only customer the notary will ever have who requests this particular vendor. Thus the notary will have to bill the full cost of the setup and subscription, plus the notary’s profit margin, to the customer. So the notary will have to add around $150 to the fee that otherwise would be charged. No wonder this is getting off to a very slow start.

    Yes, there is an one-time set up fee of $99 to get started, but that also includes a complete background check to make sure you are who you say you are. Keep in mind, that unlike some other services, there is NO software or hardware to purchase. The system works from virtually any browser from anywhere at anytime, even on most smart phones.

    We are a subscription service, and we allow individuals to either go month to month or prepaid annually. At $20 per month we offer great value, you get 40 signature documents per month with no page limitations at 50 cents per document. Each document is allowed up to 5 signatures, and in states like North Carolina you can charge $10 per e-signature, and if you do 40 notarizations per month with only one signature on each, you can make up to $400 per month for just $20 per month.

    We also have a very feature rich service, custom signature elements, we encrypt and securly store those documents, giving your signers access to them 24/7, it’s extremely easy to use, in states where you have to have your own certificate you can do that too. You can also upload other document types such as Microsoft Word and much more. You get a whole lot with very little investment from the notary’s part, and imagine the power…. with our service you just need to show up at your clients location, you can even use their computer to notarize a document, and then you just leave after it’s notarized. That’s Powerful!

    DocVerify’s desire to make sure the notaries signed up for their service really are notaries and have a clean background makes sense. However, mobile notaries are already having a problem where some clients want a background check by a particular vendor at the notary’s expense. Paying for one background check is reasonable, paying for half a dozen isn’t. Similarly, if e-notarization ever takes off, we can’t expect that one vendor will dominate the market. So notaries might have to get set up for half a dozen different vendors, and it seems unlikely a notary would receive enough business relying on any one vendor’s system to justify the cost.

    I think the only situation that is likely to work is a company that needs a lot of notarizations, settles on one vendor, and has some of their staff members get up as electronic notaries. Such a company might contract with a company like DocVerify, or might set up their own system. Of course this would only work in one, or a few, locations. It might involve clients coming into the company’s office, or one staff member notarizing another staff member.

    There is one thing that was not mentioned in our previous reply. Every notary that wants to utilize our e-notary services must be set up after successfully signing up to DocVerify, but that same notary does not have to have a paid subscription in order to notarize documents in some cases.

    We do have a system in place, where a person with a paid edition account can upload a document, and request to have any one of our activated e-notaries to notarize a document. In that case, the person who uploads a document is the one who pays. So, in other words as an example, if you are a commissioned notary, and lets say you happen to work with a specific escrow company… that company can upload a document, and have that request go to you. So, with the participants present, you simply notarize it, and the company that requested it instantly gets the notarized document as well as the participants. This way they instantly get what they want, and you don’t have to have a paid account.

    The only time you will need to have a paid subscription account is if you will be uploading documents; otherwise, you may never need to have a paid account, and may only need to be set up with a free account.

    The same rules apply with the system mentioned above, where you must be a commissioned notary in a state that allows e-notarizations in order to be able to use the DocVerify e-notary system.

    it really doesn’t get any better than that, and we ARE working very hard to try to make it not only very easy to use, but as affordable as possible, and it doesn’t get any more affordable than free for now with a one time set up fee. We are also very actively working with companies and governments to make the system a part of everyday business.
